Catalytic Converters, Removing And Installing: Removal

Proceed as follows:

-- On a vehicle with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode, refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE .

NOTE:

When Installation, bring all cable ties back to same positions.

-- Disconnect vacuum hose -1-.

-- Remove air guide pipe -arrows-.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338-.

Vehicles without Mechanical Vacuum Pump:

-- Remove vacuum lines on intake manifold as follows:

1 - For EVAP Canister, press release buttons

3 - For brake booster, remove suction jet pump -arrow- from bracket and press release buttons

4 - To Leak Detection Pump -V144-, press release buttons (only on USA vehicles)

NOTE:

Ignore -Item 2-.

Vehicles with Mechanical Vacuum Pump:

-- Remove vacuum lines on intake manifold as follows:

1 - For EVAP Canister, press release buttons

3 - For the Brake Booster

NOTE:

Ignore -2- and -arrow -.

All Vehicles:

-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove bracket.

-- Remove bolts -1 and 2- and remove heat shield.

-- Remove the oxygen sensors, refer to OXYGEN SENSORS .

-- Remove nuts on connection between pre-catalytic converters and exhaust manifold -arrows-.

-- Remove the bolts and rear noise insulation -2-.

-- Remove the noise insulation bracket -arrows-.

-- Remove bolts -1 and 2- on pre-catalytic converter bracket.

-- Remove front drive shaft heat shield -arrows-.

-- Remove bolts on connection between drive shaft and final drive -A arrows- and lay drive shaft aside.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging decoupling elements.

  • Do not bent decoupling elements in front exhaust pipe more than 10°.

-- Remove pre-catalytic converters from main catalytic converters -arrows-.

-- Remove pre-catalytic converters downward.
