WIRING AND COMPONENT TESTING WITH Test Box Kit - 105 Pin Test Box Kit VAG1598/42 (THROUGH MY 2010): Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

NOTE:

Individuals with pacemakers should not bend over the engine compartment when the engine is running because the injectors are powered with high voltage.

The Test Box Kit - 105 Pin Test Box KitVAG1598/42 is designed with 105 terminals. It can be connected to the engine control module (ECM) via 2 different adapter cables.

The smaller of the two connectors on the engine control module (ECM) is assigned with terminals 1 to 60. The larger of the two connectors is assigned with terminals 1 to 94.

For testing at the 60-pin harness connection, the Test Box Kit - AdapterVAG1598/39-1 is connected to the test box with connector "A". Components on the 60-pin harness connection. Refer to Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component locations.

For testing at the 94-pin harness connection, the Test Box Kit - 94 Pin AdapterVAG1598/39-2 is connected to the test box with connectors "A" and "B". Components on the 94-pin harness connection. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram

The Test Box Kit - 105 Pin Test Box KitVAG1598/42 is designed so that it can be connected simultaneously to the engine control module harness and the engine control module itself.

This is advantageous because electronic engine control remains fully functional (for example, measurement of signals with engine running) when the test box is attached.

The procedures will indicate whether the engine control module is to remain connected to the test box or not.

CAUTION:

To avoid damaging electronic components, switch to the corresponding measuring range and observe all test conditions before connecting the test leads.

-- Remove the Engine Control Module -J623-. Refer to Engine Control Module -J623-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

-- Connect Test Box Kit - 105 Pin Test Box KitVAG1598/42 to wiring harness with Test Box Kit - AdapterVAG1598/39-1 or Test Box Kit - 94 Pin AdapterVAG1598/39-2. Clamp test box Ground (GND) clip to battery negative terminal. The procedure will indicate whether the engine control module is to be connected to the test box or not.

-- Perform test as described in relevant repair sequences.
