Ribbed Belt, Removing And Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removal

-- On a vehicle with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode. Refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE .

-- Carefully pull the engine cover off the 4 bolts one after the other -arrows-.

Vehicles through 05/2010:

-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow-, remove the air duct hose and move it to the side.

-- Remove the front noise insulation -1-. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

All Vehicles:

-- Disconnect the connectors -2- and -3-.

-- Remove the bracket -1- and move it to the side along with the wiring harness.

NOTE:

Ignore -arrow-.

CAUTION:

Risk of damage due to reversed running direction on a used ribbed belt.

  • Before Removal ribbed belt, marking running direction with chalk or felt-tip pen for reinstallation later.

-- Turn the tensioning element clockwise using the TORX® Socket - T60T40087 -arrow- to release the tension on the ribbed belt.

-- Remove the ribbed belt and release the tension on the tensioning element.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

NOTE:

The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before Installation.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.

-- Mount the ribbed belt over the pulley.

  1. Generator
  2. Idler Roller
  3. Idler Roller
  4. Coolant Pump
  5. Idler Roller
  6. Power Steering Pump
  7. A/C Compressor
  8. Ribbed Belt Tensioning Damper
  9. Vibration Damper
NOTE:

When Installation the ribbed belt, make sure it is seated correctly on the pulleys.

-- Install the wiring harness bracket, refer to OIL PAN UPPER SECTION OVERVIEW .

-- Install the air duct hose and screw-type clamps, refer to Fig 7.

-- Start the engine and check the belt routing.

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- On a vehicle with air suspension, deactivate vehicle lift mode. Refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE .
