Procedure
Follow all test requirements, refer to TEST CONDITIONS .
-- Open the left plenum chamber cover -1- above the E-box.
-- Turn the quick-release fasteners -1, 3 and 4- counter-clockwise 90° -arrows-.
-- Remove the relay/fuse holder cover -2-.
-- Remove the fuses for both fuel pumps in the relay/fuse holder in the E-box on the left side of the plenum chamber. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- Connect the Injection Rate Comparison Meter Kit - Remote Cable VAG1348/3A with Injection Rate Kit - Remote Cable VAG1348/3-3 to the left terminal -arrow 1- and -arrow 2- for the socket for both fuel pump fuses. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- Release the clip and open the positive terminal pick-off cover -A-.
-- Connect alligator clip to positive terminal pick-off.
-- Press the switch on the remote control.
- It must be possible to hear the operating sounds from both fuel pumps when near the fuel tank chambers.
Transfer Fuel Pump -G6-, Checking:
-- Disconnect the connector terminal -arrow 2- for the Injection Rate Kit - Remote Cable VAG1348/3-3.
-- Press the switch on the remote control.
- It must be possible to hear the operating noise from the Transfer Fuel Pump - G6- when near the right fuel tank chamber.
Checking the Fuel Pump - G23- :
-- Disconnect the connector terminal -arrow 1- for the Injection Rate Kit - Remote Cable VAG1348/3-3.
-- Press the switch on the remote control.
- It must be possible to hear the operating sounds from the Fuel Pump - G23- near the left fuel tank chamber.
The fuel pump runs very quietly. Avoid surrounding noises while testing the fuel pump.
All:
If you cannot hear any running noises, then remove that fuel delivery unit: Right RIGHT FUEL DELIVERY UNIT AND Transfer Fuel Pump -G6-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING , left LEFT FUEL DELIVERY UNIT AND Fuel Pump -G23-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Check if the electrical wiring between the flange and fuel pump is connected and has continuity.
If no malfunction is detected in the wires, the fuel pump is faulty. Replace the fuel delivery unit.
-- Install the fuel delivery unit RIGHT FUEL DELIVERY UNIT AND Transfer Fuel Pump -G6-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING or LEFT FUEL DELIVERY UNIT AND Fuel Pump -G23-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
