-- Remove the air filter. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING .

-- Remove the air guide hose by loosening the hose clamps -arrows-.

-- Remove the noise insulation -1 and 2-. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the stabilizer bar. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left and right nuts -1- and bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the left and right front wheel housing liners. Refer to Wheel Housing Liners .

-- Remove the nut -1- on the right longitudinal member and disconnect the ground wire form the threaded pin.

-- Position the Engine Support Bridge 10-222A on the fender bolting edges as shown in the illustration.

• The spindles for the Lifting Tackle 3033 are in the back.

-- Attach the carabineer hook spindles to the rear engine lifting eyes.

-- Remove the left and right vacuum hose -arrow- from the engine mount and free it up from the engine support.

-- Disconnect the connector -3-.

-- Disconnect the vacuum hose -2- and free it up.

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 4-.

-- Remove the mount with the Electrohydraulic Engine Mount Solenoid Valve -N398- and the vacuum reservoir.

-- Loosen the clamps -1 and 4- and remove the air guide hose.

-- Remove the bolts -2 and 3- and then remove the air guide pipe downward.

-- Remove the 2 bolts and then remove the steering gear heat shield -A-.

-- Remove the bolt -B- for the universal joint. Refer to Removing .

-- Remove universal joint from steering gear.

-- Place the Engine/Gearbox JackVAG1383A under the subframe.

-- Mark location of subframe and engine carrier to longitudinal members with a felt-tip pen.

-- Remove the bolts -3 and 4- then lower the subframe with the front engine carrier.

-- Lift up the engine with the spindles -1- for the Lifting Tackle 3033 evenly on the left and right to the dimension -a-.
