Upper Oil Pan Section, Removing And Installing: Installing

Tightening specifications. Refer to OIL PAN UPPER AND LOWER SECTIONS, OIL PUMP AND OIL COOLER OVERVIEW

NOTE:

Replace any bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.

Replace the seal and O-ring.

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating lubricating system and bearing.

Cover open parts of engine.

-- Remove any old sealant from the grooves on the upper oil pan section as well as from the sealing surfaces.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block and the upper section of the oil pan, for example using a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean the sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

NOTE:

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 1.5 mm).

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

-- Apply a sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surface on the upper section of the oil pan as shown in the illustration.

Completely fill the grooves on the sealing surfaces with sealant.
The sealant bead must be 1.5 to 2.0 mm above the sealing surface.

NOTE:

Install the upper section of the oil pan within five minutes of applying the sealant.

-- Insert the seal -1- and the O-ring -2- in the guide frame.

-- Position the upper oil pan section paying attention to the alignment bushings and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Tighten the left coolant pipes. Refer to OVERVIEW - COOLANT PIPES .

-- Install the oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the lower timing chain cover section. Refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
