Fuel System Safety Precautions

Note the Following when Working on the Fuel System:

WARNING:

There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under pressure.

Place clean rags around the connection before opening the system. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
Wear safety gloves.
Wear protective eyewear.

There is a risk of burns due to hot fuel.

The temperature of the fuel lines and may reach 100 °C (212 °F) after stopping the engine. Let the fuel cool down before opening any line connections otherwise there is a danger of scalding.
Wear safety gloves.
Wear protective eyewear.

Fuel coming into contact with skin poses a health risk.

Do not let fuel come in contact with skin. Wear fuel-resistant gloves.

Danger due to leaking fuel

Because the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- runs briefly when the battery is connected and the driver's door is opened, the voltage supply to the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- must be disconnected before opening the fuel system.
Disconnect the power supply by removing the fuse for the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- /fuel delivery unit. Refer to the applicable SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM or disconnect the battery.

To Prevent Personal Injury and Damage to the Injection and Pre-Glow System, Observe the Following:

Individuals with a pacemaker must not stay in the danger area of high voltage systems, for example ignition systems, xenon light.
The ignition must be switched off before connecting or disconnecting injection and preglow system wiring or tester cables.
Fuel lines must not be opened when engine is running.
Wash the engine only when the ignition is turned off.
Note the color coding when installing the coupling.
The connector couplings must "audibly" engage when locking.
Pull on the connections when they are connected to make sure they are secured correctly.
Delete any Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory entries that occurred during testing or assembly using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, OBD , Check DTC memory .

CAUTION:

Risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery.

Observe the steps for disconnecting the battery.
Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is turned off. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
