Cigarette Lighter -U1-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148

Removal

-- Position selector lever in "N" position.

-- Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

-- Unclip mounting frame for selector lever boot -1- from center console and lift it upward -arrows-.

-- Fold selector lever boot upward.

-- Release retaining spring -2- and remove Selector Lever Transmission Range Position Display Unit -Y26- item -1- upward.

-- Disconnect the connector.

-- Using a screwdriver -2-, pry center console storage compartment -1- out in direction of -arrow-.

-- Reach through center console storage compartment opening and press installation frame -1- for Multimedia System Control Head -E380- up in direction of -arrow-.

Vehicles with CD changer in center console storage compartment:

-- Reach through selector lever boot opening and press installation frame -1- for Multimedia System Control Head -E380- up -arrow-.

All Vehicles:

-- Unplug connectors.

-- Remove screws -arrows- and front ashtray housing -2-.

-- Disconnect ashtray and cigarette lighter lighting electrical connectors -1-.

-- Slide the Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148 into the cigarette lighter -1- as far as the stop.

-- Rotate the thumbwheel -2- on the Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148 clockwise as far as the stop.

The piston -2- is pulled upward and the release tabs -1- on the Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148 spread in direction of -arrows-.

-- Remove the cigarette lighter using the Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148 from the Cigarette Lighter Illumination Bulb -L28-.

-- Open the tabs -1- and -2- on the illumination ring in direction of -arrows-.

-- Remove the cigarette lighter -3- and the illumination ring -5- from the front ashtray -4-.

Installation

Tightening specification, refer to Special Tools .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

WARNING:

Risk of injury.

After Removal the Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148, check to see if the lighter retaining tabs are bent.
If the retaining tabs are bend, bend them back so the lighter does not slide out.

-- Remove the support -1- on the Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148.

-- Slide the piston down and hold it in place.

-- Rotate the thumbwheel -4- on the Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148 counterclockwise -arrow-. This loosens the release tabs -2- on the Cigarette Lighter -U1- item -3- so the Cigarette Lighter Release ToolT40148 can be removed.

-- Slide the cigarette lighter illumination ring into the mount until the retaining clips engage.

The illumination ring can only be inserted in the mount in one position.
