CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for working on airbags → Airbag Safety Precautions .

CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off emergency (back-up) battery for Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. Switch-on emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting vehicle battery → 91 - COMMUNICATION

1 - Deformation element

Removing

NOTE:

The battery must be disconnected when the ignition is switched on.

Switch on ignition.
Disconnect the battery ground strap.
Remove sun visor → Sun Visor, Removing and Installing .
Remove roof grab handles → Roof Grab Handle, Removing and Installing .

Remove upper trim on A-pillar → Upper A-Pillar Trim, Removing and Installing .
Remove garment hook → Garment Hook, Removing and Installing .
Remove D-pillar trim → D-Pillar Trim, Removing and Installing .
Remove rear shelf → Rear Shelf, Removing and Installing .

Remove head-level airbag → Side Curtain Airbag, Removing and Installing .
Remove nuts - 2 - (4x).
Remove deformation element - 1 -.

Installing

Install deformation element - 1 - in reverse order of removal.

2 - Nuts (qty. 4)

Tightening torque 4 Nm.
