Transfer case gear oil, topping off after repairs

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Drip tray V.A.G 1306
• Safety glasses

Requirements 

• Gear oil temperature at approx. 20°C (room temperature).
• The cover was removed from transfer case and all gear oil was thereby drained.
• The vehicle is positioned completely level on a hoist or above a service pit.
• The vehicle must not be started or towed without gear oil.

Work sequence

• Place drip tray V.A.G 1306 under transmission.
• Remove rear sound insulation panels, by removing bolts - 3  - and - 4  -.

• Remove oil inspection and filler plug - C  -.

• Fill 1100 ml gear oil into transfer case via the oil inspection and filler plug - C  - , Specification → Transfer case .

• Allow excess gear oil to drip from the opening, until the oil level - arrow  - in transfer case is OK.

• Install new oil inspection and filler plug - C  -.
