Radiator, removing and installing: Removing
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
- All cable ties opened or cut during engine removal must be reinstalled at the same locations during installation.
- Activate vehicle lifting mode → 43 - Self Leveling Suspension .
- Remove cover above coolant reservoir - arrows -.
CAUTION:
Cover the cap of the expansion tank with a rag and open it carefully, as hot steam, i.e. hot coolant, may escape when opening.
- Open cap of coolant expansion tank.
- Remove both front wheels.
NOTE:
- Secure the brake discs with wheel bolts.
- For vehicles with auxiliary heater, remove bolts - arrows - for exhaust pipe of auxiliary heater on sound insulation.
- Loosen quick-release fasteners - 1 - and remove front sound insulation.
- Place drip tray for workshop crane VAS 6208 or drip tray V.A.G 1306 under engine.
- Disconnect coolant hose - arrow - from left coolant pipe and drain coolant.
- Disconnect lower right coolant hose - arrow - from auxiliary cooler and drain remaining coolant.
- Remove coolant hoses - 1 - and - 2 - at radiator by releasing retaining clips.
- Remove front part of left and right front wheelhouse liner → 66 - EXTERIOR EQUIPMENT .
- Remove front bumper cover → 63 - BUMPERS .

- Disconnect electrical connector - 1 - for Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor G70.
- Disconnect air duct - 4 - at intake manifold.
- Unhook retainer for connections - 2 - and - 3 - at upper part of air filter housing.
- Remove bolts - arrows -.
- Remove upper part of right air filter housing.
- Disconnect upper coolant hose - arrow - from radiator by releasing retaining clip.
- Disconnect harness connector - 2 - and move wiring clear.
- Remove bolts - 1 -.
- Remove air ducting for auxiliary cooler.
- Disconnect electrical harness connectors - 1 to 6 - and move electrical wiring clear.
- Remove bracket for Outside air temperature sensor G17 by rotating bracket 90° clockwise and removing.
- Disconnect electrical connections - 1 - and - 2 - from braces.
- Remove bolts - arrows -.
- Remove bumper with braces.
- Remove air guide at left and right - arrows -.
CAUTION:
The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
NOTE:
- To prevent damage to the A/C compressor and also to the refrigerant lines/hoses, ensure that the lines and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
- Remove bolts - arrows -.
- Pivot condenser with power steering fluid cooler downward.
- Tie up condenser to vehicle.
- Remove both brackets for radiator - arrows -.
- Pivot upper radiator forward slightly and lift it out of lock carrier.
