Overview - ATF Circuit

CAUTION:

Danger Of Causing Damage To The Transmission.

  • Remove all the plugs on the ATF pipes and on the transmission that were installed during removal.
  • The ATF cooling function will not work and the transmission will be damaged if the plugs are forgotten.
NOTE:

The illustration shows the ATF line routing for the 2.0L TDI engine and all 6-cylinder engines, others similar.

  1. ATF Cooler
  2. ATF Pipe, Return
    • From the ATF cooler to the transmission
    • Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
  3. ATF Pipe, Supply
    • From the transmission to the ATF cooler
    • Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
  4. Bolt
    • 5 Nm 
    • First insert the ATF pipes with new o-rings by hand as far as the stop
  5. O-ring
    • Always replace
    • Coat with ATF before installing
  6. Bolt
    • 8 Nm 
  7. ATF Pipe, Supply
    • Nuts on lines, 29 Nm 
    • From the transmission to the ATF cooler
    • Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
    • The ATF pipes are secured to each other
  8. ATF Pipe, Return
    • Nuts on lines,29 Nm 
    • From the ATF cooler to the transmission
    • Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
    • The ATF pipes are secured to each other
  9. Transmission
  10. ATF Filter
  11. Bolt
    • 5 Nm  + 90°
    • Always replace
  12. Bolt
    • 20 Nm 
    • First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
    • The retaining tab on the lower ATF pipe must touch the ATF filter thread
    • The retaining tab on the upper ATF pipe must touch the lower one.
  13. Bolt
    • 8 Nm 
  14. Engine
  15. Clip
    • Installed depending on the date of manufacture
    • If the clip is present, then it must be installed again after being removed otherwise the ATF pipes will get damaged.
    • Install between the markings on the ATF pipes.
