Front Upper Control Arm, Removing and Installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Torque wrench V.A.G 1332
- Ring spanner insert AF 16 V.A.G 1332/14
- CV joint boot clamp tool T40067
Removing
- Place vehicle on a hoist → Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels .
- Remove wheel covers, remove cover cap on light-alloy wheels (removal hook in vehicle tool kit).
- Remove wheel.
- Secure brake disc with a wheel bolt.
- Remove front section of the front wheel housing liner - 1 - → 66 - EXTERIOR EQUIPMENT .
- Remove nut - 4 - and bolt and remove control arm - 3 - upward.
Do not widen slit in the wheel bearing housing using a chisel or similar tool.
- Remove bolt - 2 -.
Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:
- First tighten bolts/nuts on components with bonded rubber bushings by hand. Raise wheel bearing housing to tighten bolts/nuts → Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position .
- Insert both front upper control arm joint pins - 2 - in the wheel bearing housing - 3 - and bend them downward as far as possible using pliers T40067.
- Tighten bolt - 1 -
- Tighten bolt on mounting bracket.
- Mount wheel and tighten → 44 - WHEELS, TIRES, VEHICLE ALIGNMENT .
- Place vehicle on wheels → Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels .
