DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected [10/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input/Min.: 0 L (0 US qts, 0 lmp. qts), Max.: 127.5 L (134.7 US qts, 112.2 lmp. qts) Fuel receiver gauge indicates F: 61.6 L (65.1 US qts, 54.2 lmp. qts) -
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 3/4: 46.9 L (49.6 US qts, 41.3 lmp. qts)
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/2: 32.2 L (34.0 US qts, 28.3 lmp. qts)
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/4: 18.2 L (19.2 US qts, 16.0 lmp. qts)
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates E: 4.2 L (4.4 US qts, 3.7 lmp. qts)

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Fuel level data can be displayed on the Techstream and DTC B1500 is output. A
      Fuel level data cannot be displayed on the Techstream. B

  2. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the D9 combination meter assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D9-18 (FR) - D9-17 (FE) Always 13.5 to 414.5 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Combination Meter Assembly)

    NG → See step   3 

    OK → See step   6 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the J9 fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D9-18 (FR) - J9-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      D9-18 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D9-17 (FE) - J9-3 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω
      D9-17 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [10/2013 - ] .
    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to INSPECTION [10/2013 - ] .

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Visually check for deformation on the fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly connector.

      OK

      There is no deformation.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK → See step   6 

  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2013 - ] 
  7. REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2013 - ] 
  8. REPLACE FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2013 - ]
