Coolant thermostat, removing and installing, checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drip tray for workshop crane VAS 6208
Hose clamp pliers V.A.G 1921
Spring-type clip pliers V.A.S 5024 A

Removing

Drain coolant → Cooling system, draining and filling .
Toothed belt, removing → Toothed belt, removing and installing .

Remove coolant hose - arrow - from coolant thermostat housing.
Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and remove coolant thermostat housing.
Remove O-ring and coolant thermostat.

Installing

NOTE:

Replace gaskets and O-rings.

Clean and/or smooth O-ring sealing surface.
Install coolant thermostat.

Installed location: Bleeder valve - arrow - toward top.

Install coolant thermostat housing.

Further installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Install toothed belt (adjust timing) → Toothed belt, removing and installing .
Fill with coolant.
Install torque support → Torque support (with torque support valve N382), assembly overview .
