Coolant thermostat, removing and installing, checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Drip tray for workshop crane VAS 6208
- Hose clamp pliers V.A.G 1921
- Spring-type clip pliers V.A.S 5024 A
Removing
- Drain coolant → Cooling system, draining and filling .
- Toothed belt, removing → Toothed belt, removing and installing .
- Remove coolant hose - arrow - from coolant thermostat housing.
- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and remove coolant thermostat housing.
- Remove O-ring and coolant thermostat.
Installing
NOTE:
- Replace gaskets and O-rings.
- Clean and/or smooth O-ring sealing surface.
- Install coolant thermostat.
- Installed location: Bleeder valve - arrow - toward top.
- Install coolant thermostat housing.
Further installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
- Install toothed belt (adjust timing) → Toothed belt, removing and installing .
- Fill with coolant.
- Install torque support → Torque support (with torque support valve N382), assembly overview .
