Lower oil pan, removing and installing: Installing

Install oil pan in reverse order but note the following:

Clean oil and grease from sealing surfaces.

WARNING: Wear eye protection.

Remove remaining sealant from oil pan and engine block using electric drill and plastic brush attachment.

NOTE: Oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes of applying silicone sealer D 176 404 A2.

Cut off nozzle of tube at front marking (nozzle dia. approx. 3 mm or 5/16 in.).
- Thickness of sealant bead: 2 to 3 mm (approx. 1/8 in.)

CAUTION: Part numbers are listed for reference only. Always check with your Parts department for the latest information.

NOTE: The bead of sealant must not be thicker than 3 mm (approx. 1/8 in.), as otherwise excess sealant will enter the oil pan and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.

Install oil pan immediately and tighten all bolts initially to 5 Nm (44 in. lb).
Tighten bolts in crosswise sequence - final torque: 15 Nm (11 ft lb).
Replace seal on oil drain plug and tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft lb).

NOTE: After installing the oil pan, wait for about 30 minutes for the sealant to cure before filling with engine oil.

Fill with engine oil. See ENGINE OIL, FILLING .
