Camshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Plastigage®
Procedure
-- Remove the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Mark the assignment of the roller rocker lever for installation later.
-- Remove the roller rocker lever and place it on a clean surface.
-- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.
-- Place Plastigage® over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing.
- Plastigage® must rest in center of bearing.
-- Install the camshafts, mount the guide frame and tighten the bolts to the final tightening specification. Refer to Figure. When doing this, be careful not to rotate the camshafts.
-- Remove the bearing bracket and camshafts.
-- Compare width of Plastigage® with calibrated scale.
Radial clearance:
- With bearing-diameter 24 mm: 0.024 to 0.066 mm
- With bearing-diameter 36 mm: 0.032 to 0.078 mm
-- Use new bolts for the final assembly.
