Rear Final Drive

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Counterhold toolT10172 with adaptersT10172/6

Removing

-- Remove rear section of exhaust system. Refer to [For engine(s) BAR] Description and Operation .

-- Check whether there is a factory marking (colored marking) on rear driveshaft and at driveshaft flange. If not, identify position of driveshaft CV joint -arrow A- to driveshaft flange at rear final drive -arrow B- with paint.

-- Remove rear driveshaft from rear final drive. Refer to REAR DRIVESHAFT .

-- Use the counterhold toolT10172 with the adaptersT10172/6 to do this.

-- Tie up driveshaft -arrow-.

-- Remove right rear -1- and left -2- driveshafts from rear final drive.

-- Tie up driveshafts.

NOTE:

Make sure driveshaft protective coating is not damaged.

-- Position Engine/Transmission JackV.A.G 1383 A at rear final drive.

-- Remove bolts -arrows- at rear final drive/subframe connection.

-- Tip up rear final drive at driveshaft flange -A-.

-- Lower rear final drive.

Refer to FRONT FINAL DRIVE

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Tightening specifications. Refer to REAR FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

-- Attach rear driveshafts to rear final drive flange shafts. Refer to REAR DRIVE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Attach rear driveshaft to rear final drive REAR DRIVESHAFT .

-- Check gear oil level in rear final drive. Refer to REAR FINAL DRIVE AXLE OIL LEVEL, CHECKING .

-- Install rear section of exhaust system. Refer to [For engine(s) BAR] Description and Operation
