Rear Driveshaft

NOTE:

General repair notes. Refer to the appropriate service information .

Driveshaft CV joints may only be moved without force and only as far as their stops, which is a 10° angle.

Do not flex rear driveshaft; store only extended with center bearing bracket facing upwards.

Repair work must not be performed on the driveshaft.

If driveshaft is removed only from transfer case or from rear final drive, the driveshaft must be tied up to the body or supported.

Before removing driveshaft, mark position of CV joint to final drive flange. Re-install in the same position otherwise imbalance will be excessive, the bearings could be damaged causing rumbling noises.

If droning noises occur when driving, remove rear driveshaft from rear final drive, rotate one hole relative to flange and attach again.

If droning sounds can still be heard, the rear driveshaft can be rotated from rear final drive and rotated back in offset by one hole a total of 5 times.
