Instrument Cluster, Removing And Installing: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removal

NOTE:

All warning lamps in instrument cluster are fitted with light-emitting diodes. Instrument cluster must be replaced in the event of warning lamp failure.

NOTE:

Do not disassemble instrument cluster.

When Installation, reinstall all cable ties that were loosened or cut during removal in the same locations.

-- If the instrument cluster with the Instrument Cluster Control Module -J285- was replaced, select the "Replace" function for the corresponding control module in the "Guided Fault Finding"  or "Guided Functions"  operating mode on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Adjust steering wheel downward and to rear as far as possible, use entire adjustment range of steering column adjustment for this.

-- Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

-- Remove the center vents in the instrument panel, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Press cover strip -1- at button unit for instrument cluster in direction of -arrow-.

-- Grasp cover strip and remove from button unit.

-- Attach T-Handle Hook3438 in opening -arrow- at button unit.

-- Carefully remove buttons -1- from instrument cluster lining.

-- Disconnect the connector.

-- Press cover strip -1- on button unit in direction of -arrow-.

-- Grasp cover strip and remove from button unit.

-- Attach the Hook ToolT40207 in opening -arrow- at the button unit.

-- Carefully remove button unit -1- for Glove Compartment Button -E316- and Display Unit Button -E506- from instrument panel trim.

-- Disconnect the connector.

-- Pry gap cover at bottom ends out of driver's side cover in direction of -arrow A- using Trim Removal Wedge3409.

-- Remove gap cover -1- from instrument cluster in direction of -arrow B-.

-- Remove screws -arrows-.

-- Pry out wiring clip -4- on instrument cluster trim.

NOTE:

For easier removal, use silicon-free lubricating spray.

-- Cut through cable ties -3-.

-- Release connector lock -2- on MMI display -arrow- and swivel upward.

-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -1- on MMI display.

-- Disconnect electrical harness connector on instrument cluster, to do so, press catch -1-, rotate retainer in direction of -arrow- and disconnect connector.

-- Remove instrument cluster lining with instrument cluster and MMI display between steering wheel and instrument panel.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

NOTE:

When Installation, install cable ties at same location.

-- Follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnosis Tester display with a new instrument cluster.

-- Install the center vents in the instrument panel, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
