Test conditions

Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.

Fuel filter OK
Fuel tank at least ¹ /₄ filled.
Ignition switched off.

Test sequence

Sedan:

Remove carpeting in luggage compartment.
Fold forward right rear seat backrest, if necessary.

Wagon:

Remove left 1/3 backrest →
- 72 - SEAT - FRAMES
- 72 - SEAT - FRAMES for BODY INTERIOR - CABRIOLET
.
Remove left side luggage compartment trim and dirt tray →
- 70 - INTERIOR TRIM
- 70 - INTERIOR TRIM for BODY INTERIOR - CABRIOLET
.

Unbolt cover for locking flange in luggage compartment - arrows -.

Disconnect electrical harness connector - arrow - at locking flange.

Connect remote control V.A.G 1348/3 A with connection V.A.G 1348/3-3 to contact - 1 - using an adapter cable from connector test set V.A.G 1594 C.
Using insulating tape, tape over the second contact of connection V.A.G 1348/3-3 to prevent a short circuit - arrow -.
Connect contact - 4 - to vehicle ground (GND) using a jumper cable from connector test set V.A.G 1594 C.
Connect alligator clip to vehicle battery (+).

Remove fuel filler cap from fuel filler tube.

Remove rear engine cover - arrows -.

CAUTION: The fuel system is under pressure! Before opening system, place rags around the connection area. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.

Disconnect fuel line - arrow -.

Connect pressure gauge V.A.G 1318 to fuel line using adapter V.A.G 1318/11 and V.A.G 1318/12.
Connect extension hose - arrow - to pressure gauge and hold it in a measuring container.
Open shut-off valve of pressure gauge. The lever points in direction of flow.
Generate pressure in fuel system by pressing switch of remote control and slowly closing shut-off valve of the pressure gauge.

Specification: 4 bar positive pressure.

From this point on do not move position of shut-off valve.
Empty measuring container.
Press switch on remote control for 15 seconds.

Compare quantity of fuel delivered with minimum delivery rate in diagram (cm ³ /15s).

NOTE:

Voltage at fuel pump with engine stopped and pump running is approx. 2 volts less than battery voltage.

If minimum delivery quantity is not obtained, the following malfunctions may be present:

Fuel lines pinched.
Fuel filter clogged.
Fuel pump faulty.

Installation is in reverse order of removal.
