Upper Control Arms, Removing and Installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Torque wrench V.A.G 1332
- Ring spanner insert AF 16 V.A.G 1332/14
- CV joint boot clamp tool T40067
- Ruler
Removing
- Place vehicle on a hoist → Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels .
- Remove air spring damper → Air Spring Damper, Removing and Installing .
- Secure air spring damper with protective covers in vise clamp.
- Remove both control arms.
Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:
- Mount both control arms to mounting bracket.
- Set both control arms before fastening.
Control arms, setting
- Position ruler - A -.
Dimension - a - = 87 2 mm
- Adjust front upper control arm to dimension - a - and only tighten to the specification.
- After tightening without any additional turns, check adjustment and repeat if necessary.
- Position ruler - A -.
Dimension - b - = 73 2 mm
- Adjust rear upper control arm to dimension - a - and only tighten to specification.
- After tightening without any additional turns, check the adjustment and repeat if necessary.
- Tighten control arm threaded connections.
- Tighten bolts on mounting bracket.
- Mount wheel and tighten → 44 - WHEELS, TIRES, VEHICLE ALIGNMENT .
- Place vehicle on wheels → Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels .
