Brace 10-222 A/21
Drip tray V.A.G 1306 or drip tray for workshop crane VAS 6208
Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A

Removing

Disconnect hose - 1 - from air duct.
Remove left air duct - arrows -.

Disconnect electrical connector - 1 - for right Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor G70 on air filter housing.
Disconnect air duct hose - 4 - at intake manifold.
Unhook retainer for connections - 2 - and - 3 - at upper part of air filter housing.
Remove bolts - arrows -.

Remove upper part of right air filter housing.

Disconnect vacuum hose - 4 - from Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve N80.

NOTE:

Ignore - 1 to 3 - in the illustration.

Disconnect electrical connection - 6 - at Throttle valve control module J338.
Disconnect vacuum hose - 1 -.
Disconnect hoses - 4 - and - 5 - for crankcase breather.
Remove bolts - 2 - and - 3 -.

Remove right intake manifold side part.

Remove cover above coolant reservoir - arrows -.

CAUTION: Cover the cap of the expansion tank with a rag and open it carefully, as hot steam, i.e. hot coolant, may escape when opening.

Open cap of coolant expansion tank.

Remove rubber seal - 1 - for plenum chamber covers.
Remove plenum chamber covers - 2 - and - 3 -.

Unclip fuel lines from retainer on strut tower.
Remove rear bolts - 3 - for strut tower brace.
Secure engine support bridge 10-222 A with supports 10-222 A/21 to strut towers.

The supports are marked for left and right side of the vehicle.
The middle contact point - 2 - of the support is placed on the front bolts for the strut tower brace.
The supports 10-222 A/21 are secured with the rear bolts - 3 - for the strut tower brace.
The knurled thumb screw - 1 - must be turned downward far enough so that the contact plate rests on the strut tower.

Secure spindles of engine support bridge 10-222 A at rear engine lifting eyes.
Pre-tension engine slightly using engine support bridge spindles.
Remove both front wheels.

NOTE:

Secure the brake discs with wheel bolts.

For vehicles with auxiliary heater, remove bolts - arrows - for exhaust pipe of auxiliary heater on noise insulation.

Loosen quick-release fasteners - 1 - and - 2 - and remove sound insulation.

Remove bracket for sound insulation - arrows -.

Remove bolt - arrow - at bottom of right coolant pipe.

Disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 - at left and right Level Control System sensors.

Loosen and remove bolts - arrows - uniformly at left and right sides of vehicle.
Remove stabilizer.

Support engine carrier and subframe using engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A as shown in illustration.

Remove bolts - 2 - and - 3 - on both sides of vehicle.
Then, loosen and remove bolt - 1 - on left and right sides of vehicle uniformly (alternating between left and right sides of vehicle).
Remove engine carrier.

Place drip tray V.A.G 1306 or drip tray VAS 6208 under engine.
Disconnect coolant hose - 2 - from coolant pipe and drain coolant.
Disconnect coolant pipe from coolant hose - 1 -.

NOTE:

Disregard - arrow -.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

NOTE:

Secure all hose connections using hose clamps appropriate for the model type .

Install subframe → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
Install stabilizer → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
Install right intake manifold side part: → Intake Manifold Right Side, Removing and Installing .
Install strut tower brace → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .

Fill with coolant → Filling under Cooling System, Draining and Filling
Deactivate vehicle lifting mode → 43 - Self Leveling Suspension .
