- Actuator "windshield defroster" is indicated only with A/C control head -E87- with the Part Number beginning from Index "M."
- Activation of front windshield defroster from -E87- occurs in the output diagnostic test mode only up to temperature in the passenger compartment of 40° C. If the temperature is higher, Scan Tool display indicates "Function unknown or can not be conducted at this time."
- The switch on function of windshield defroster control module -J505- can be tested with Multimeter VAG1715. Place the voltmeter over plus wire from windshield defroster control module -J505- to windshield defroster -Z2- and select function "Current measurement via voltmeter" on the multimeter. Display changes from approx. 0A to greater than 7A.
- The windshield defroster is offered on vehicles beginning model year 1999 with revised instrument cluster center as and option and will be phased in introduction.
