Test requirements
- Battery voltage at least 11 V
- Ground connections at engine and transmission OK
- Fuses OK
- Ground (GND) connections and Ground point for transmission OK
- Check battery Ground (GND) strap and Ground strap between battery and transmission.
- Switch ignition off.
NOTE:
Data Link Connector is located at left below the driver-side footwell.
- Unclip cover for Data Link Connector.
- Connect VAS 5051 tester to vehicle with VAS 5051/1 diagnostic wire. Alternately, VAG 1551 Scan Tool can also be attached using VAG 1551/3 adapter.
WARNING:
- When taking test readings while the vehicle is moving, VAS 5051 tester or VAG 1551 scan tool must always be secured to the rear seat and operated from there by a second technician.
- Please observe safety precautions. See SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

If nothing appears in display:
See Operating instructions of Scan Tool (ST).
- Switch ignition on.
- Switch printer on via the PRINT button (indicator lamp in button lights up).
- Press button 1 to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1.

NOTE:
The address word 00 initiates the automatic test sequence, i.e. it results in a DTC check on all OBD capable systems in the vehicle via rapid data transfer.
