Pressure checking

Open hose clamps (arrows) and remove intake hose -1-.
Remove union nut -2- while counterholding hex bolt on pressure line.
Use plug to plug line to steering gear.

Screw VAG1402/3 adapter into line to power steering pump.
Install hose from VAG1402 pressure gauge on VAG 1402/3 adapter.
Close shut-off valve on pressure gauge (lever faces toward left).
Reinstall intake hose.

If necessary, add fluid to the power steering fluid reservoir.

Check pressure

NOTE: To avoid damaging pump, note the following:

Do not allow the engine to run more than 10 seconds during the test.
Start engine without depressing accelerator pedal and let engine idle.
Make a note of pressure immediately after starting engine when it is idling (this may require a second technician).
As pressure drops during check, the highest pressure is definitive.

Audi A 6:

Specification: 120-130 bar positive pressure.

Audi allroad:

Specification: 120-130 bar positive pressure.

Turn engine off.
If specification is not obtained, replace the power steering pump. See POWER STEERING PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Check fluid level. See POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING; STEERING SYSTEM, BLEEDING AND CHECKING FOR LEAKS .
Bleed steering system. See STEERING SYSTEM, BLEEDING .
Check steering system for leaks. See STEERING SYSTEM, CHECKING FOR LEAKS .
