Removal & Installation (2.7L & 2.8 V6)

• Determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.
• Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.

Vehicles With V6 Engine (2.7-Liter Biturbo And 2.8-Liter) 

Removing 

• Remove wire for terminal B+ -1-.

• Tightening torque: 16 Nm (12 ft lb)
• Remove electrical connector from terminal 50 -2-.
• Remove mounting bolts -1- and -2- from transmission housing.

Vehicles with automatic transmission 

• Remove right-front wheel.
• Remove bolt -1- from right wheelhousing.
• Remove bolt -2- from engine side.
• Remove starter from below.

Installing 

• Install in reverse order of removal.

  Starter bolt size	Tightening torques
  M10 X 135	45 Nm (33 ft lb)
  M12 X 130 (upper bolt)	65 Nm (48 ft lb)

Vehicles with manual transmission 

• Remove rear noise insulation (arrows).

• Remove mounting bolts -1- and -2- from transmission housing.

• Remove starter from rear.

Installing 

• Install in reverse order of removal.

  Starter bolt size	Tightening torques
  M10 X 135	45 Nm (33 ft lb)
  M12 X 130 (upper bolt)	65 Nm (48 ft lb)

Vehicles with manual transmission 

Remove rear noise insulation (arrows).

Remove mounting bolts -1- and -2- from transmission housing.

Remove starter from rear.

Installing 

• Install in reverse order of removal.

  Starter bolt size	Tightening torques
  M10 x 135	45 Nm (33 ft lb)
  M12 x 130 (upper bolt)	65 Nm (48 ft lb)

Vehicles with V8 Engine (4.2-liter) 

Removing 

• Remove noise insulation (arrows).

• Remove right wheel.
• Remove heat shield for right drive axle (arrows).

• Unbolt right drive shaft from transmission flange.
• Repair Manual, Suspension, Wheels, Steering, Repair Group 40
• Remove bolt -1- located above right wheel housing (16 mm).

• Tightening torques: 65 Nm
• You can unbolt bolts -2- (16 mm) from the engine side.
• Tightening torques: 65 Nm
• Remove the starter downward.

Installing 

• To install, perform the steps described for removal in reverse order.
