- Engine support bridge 10-222 A
- Pry lever 80-200
- Transmission support 3282
- Adjustment plate 3282/30
- Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Fender insert pads T40045
- Drip tray for VAS 6100 VAS 6208
Work procedure
NOTE:
- Reinstall cable ties that were loosened or cut off during removal at same locations during installation.
- Place selector lever in position "P".
CAUTION:
Observe procedures for disconnecting battery →
- 27 BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL
- 27 BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL for ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, CABRIOLET
- Slide cover over battery to right - arrow 1 - and pull it off upwards - arrow 2 -.
- With ignition switched off, disconnect Battery Ground (GND) wire - arrow -.
- Remove rear engine cover - arrows -.
- Remove front engine cover - arrows -.
- Pull off sealing rubber at bolted flanges of fender.

- To prevent damage to bolted flanges of fender when using engine support bridge 10-222 A , insert fender insert pads T40045 on both sides between bolted flange of fender and web plate lying beneath.

- Position engine support bridge 10-222 A with two adapters 10 - 222 A/3 on to bolted flanges of fender.
- Engage spindles onto engine lifting eyes as shown.
- Take up some of the engine weight by tightening spindle of support bar, but do not lift.
- Remove both front wheels.
- On vehicles equipped with auxiliary heater, remove bolts - arrows - for exhaust pipe of auxiliary/additional heater to noise insulation.
- Remove bolts or quick-release screws - 1 to 3 - and remove noise insulation at front and rear.
- Remove noise insulation bracket - arrows -.
- Remove bolts - 1 through 4 - and remove front cross member for vehicle floor.
NOTE:
- Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Disconnect exhaust system at both double clamps - arrows -.

- Place plunger of Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A with a block of wood inserted in between - 1 - on transmission at bottom.
- Support tunnel cross member using Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- First remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - , then bolts - 3 - and - 4 -.
- Slowly lower tunnel cross member using Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- Remove nuts - arrows - and remove tunnel cross member.

- If installed, remove bolt - 1 - for noise insulation cover over left and right drive axle.
- Disengage hook - 2 - and remove noise insulation cover.
- Remove left and right heat shields for drive axles - 1 -.
- Remove drive axle from transmission flange on left and right sides → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
- Remove left and right front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter →

- 26 EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS for 3.0 LITER 6-CYL. 5V ENGINE MECHANICAL, ENGINE CODE(S): AVK, BGN
- 26 - EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS 3.2 V6 4V ENGINE MECHANICAL, ENGINE CODE(S): BKH
- 26 - EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS for 4.2 LITER V8 4V ENGINE MECHANICAL, ENGINE CODE(S): BNS
- 26 - EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS for 4.2 LITER V8 5V ENGINE MECHANICAL, ENGINE CODE(S): BHF
- Remove Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor G28 on left of transmission - arrow - and lay to side.
- Remove bracket for ATF-lines - arrow -.
- Place drip tray for workshop crane VAS 6208 under transmission.
NOTE:
- Observe the rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions → Rules for cleanliness when working on transmission .
- Remove bolt - arrow - and remove ATF lines from transmission.
- Seal openings with clean cover caps.
- Move ATF lines clear to one side and secure in place.
- Loosen bolts - arrows - at torque support stop approx. two rotations each.
- Remove left and right stabilizer mounts - 1 - and - 2 -.
- Swing stabilizer downward.
- Remove nuts - 3 - at engine mount on left and right far enough until lower edge of nut is flush with threaded pin - arrow -.
- Raise engine using spindles of engine support bridge 10-222 A far enough until both nuts - 3 - (on left and right sides) make contact on from below.

- Place plunger of Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A with a block of wood - 1 - inserted in between transmission at bottom.
- Raise transmission slightly using Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
NOTE:
- Lower connecting bolts on engine/transmission flange are accessible by doing this.
- Remove bolts - 8, 9 and 10 - on engine/transmission flange.
- Lower engine again using spindles of engine support bridge 10-222 A.
- Disengage electrical harness connector - 1 - and disconnect from transmission.
- Move wiring harness clear - arrows -.
- Remove bolts - 2 - and remove transmission support - 1 - from transmission.
- Remove bolts - 2 to 6 - at engine/transmission flange.
- Loosen bolts - 1 - and - 7 - only and then tighten by hand.
NOTE:
- Starter must not be removed.
- Mount transmission support 3282 on Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- Set Template 3282/30 on to transmission support 3282 (template only fits in one position).
- Align arms of transmission support to correspond with holes in adjustment plate.
- Attach support elements on adjustment plate, as illustrated.

- Move engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with transmission mount 3282 under transmission and support transmission.
NOTE:
- The arrow symbol on the adjusting plate points in the direction of travel.
- Align template parallel to transmission and secure to transmission using a bolt M10 x 20 - arrow -.
- Move drive shafts towards rear.
- Remove last mounting bolts - 1 - and - 7 - on engine/transmission flange.
- Press transmission off bushings - A - and carefully lower it far enough until selector lever cable is accessible.
- Mark installation position of support bracket for selector lever cable.
- Remove bolt - 1 - support bracket for selector lever cable.
- Press selector lever cable ball joint - 2 - off from selector shaft lever.
NOTE:
- Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
- Slowly lower transmission.
- Pay attention to clearance of drive axles when lowering transmission.
