Gear oil in front final drive, filling up after servicing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Drip tray VAG1306
- Plug insert 3247 (8mm)
Procedure
- Drive vehicle onto a 4-column lift or over a work pit.
NOTE:
- The vehicle must be on a level surface.
- Place drip tray VAG1306 underneath.
- Remove locking screw (arrow).
NOTE:
- Loosen locking bolt using an angled socket-head wrench, but do not use hex ball socket 3247. For improved accessibility it may be necessary to remove the heat shield and drive axle and to set them aside.
- If hex ball socket 3247 is used for loosening the bolt, it could be destroyed.
- Slowly and uniformly fill front final drive over a time period of at least 5 minutes until gear oil escapes at lower edge of oil filler hole.

NOTE:
- Filling time of at least 5 minutes is essential, so that the internal oil level compensation between differential and retaining area can occur.
- Screw in old locking screw (arrow).
- Perform a short test drive to warm gear oil to approx. 60 ° C.
- Check front final drive oil level → Gear oil in front final drive, checking .
NOTE:
- Replace locking screw with seal.
- When the oil level is correct, tighten locking bolt using hex ball socket 3247 (8 mm socket) to 30 Nm.
