Test conditions for operations with engine running

No DTC stored in DTC memory
Coolant temperature at least 85 C.
Electrical consumers switched off (radiator fan must not run during the check)
Air conditioner switched off
Gear selector lever in P or N position
Wheels in straight -ahead position
Connect Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 or V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool and select engine electronics control module 1 with "Address word" 01. See VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC, TESTING AND INFORMATION SYSTEM VAS 5051, CONNECTING AND SELECTING ENGINE CONTROL MODULE or V.A.G 1551 SCAN TOOL, CONNECTING AND SELECTING ENGINE CONTROL MODULE . For this purpose, engine must be running at idle speed.
Checking and erasing Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTM) memory. DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) MEMORY, CHECKING AND ERASING . No DTCs must be stored (if necessary, correct malfunction, erase DTC memory, switch off and re -start engine, perform test drive and check DTC memory again.
Leave engine idling.

Press keys 0 and 4 for function "Basic Setting" and confirm entry by pressing Q key.

Select required display group number from display group overview in "Measured Value Block" section.

NOTE: Display group number 000 is used here as an example to demonstrate the procedure.

Press key 0 three times.

(000 is used to select the function "display group 000").

NOTE: After the display group number is selected, the EGR valve is closed and the air conditioner compressor is switched off.

Confirm entry with Q key.

Allow engine to idle for a few minutes; coolant temperature at least 85 °C (display zone 1: at least 180).

NOTE:

Each time the PRINT key is pressed, the current display readout is printed out.
Press the C key before selecting further display groups.

If specifications are achieved in all display zones, press -->-key.
