Passive Occupant Detection System (PODS) passenger airbag deactivation belt latch (USA only), replacing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
CAUTION:
Observe:
- Airbag safety precautions → Airbag safety precautions
- Safety precautions for working with pyrotechnic belt tensioners → Pyrotechnic belt tensioners, safety and handling instructions
- Seat belt inspection → Seat belts, inspecting .
- Remove seat:
- Standard seat: Vehicles through 10.04 → Front seats (standard seat), removing and installing , vehicles from 11.04 → Front seats (standard seat), removing and installing
- Electric seat: Vehicles through 10.04 → Front power seats with memory, removing and installing , vehicles from 11.04 → Front power seats with memory, removing and installing
Removing
NOTE:
- The seat occupied recognition passenger airbag deactivation belt latch is only installed on passenger side.
CAUTION:
The seat occupied recognition passenger airbag deactivation belt latch must be replaced each time passenger belt tensioner deploys.
Removing
- Disconnect connector - 1 - under seat.
- If present, remove cable from clip - 2 - equipment versions.
- Remove bolt - 3 -.
- Remove belt latch - 4 -.
Installing
CAUTION:
The seat occupied recognition passenger airbag deactivation belt latch must be replaced each time passenger belt tensioner deploys.
Observe:

- Safety precautions for working with pyrotechnic belt tensioners → Pyrotechnic belt tensioners, safety and handling instructions
- Seat belt inspection → Seat belts, inspecting .
Installation is reverse of removal.
NOTE:
- If seat occupied recognition passenger airbag deactivation belt latch is replaced, seat occupied recognition registration sheet must be filled out with serial number and bar code sticker from new belt latch and sent to importer.
