Removal & Installation (Steel - Wheel Bearing Housing Installed)

Remove wheel cover. Loosen drive axle bolt by 90° only. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Remove drive axle bolt completely.
Pull out safety washer and disconnect parking brake cables from brake caliper. Be careful not to damage parking brake boot when removing and installing cable. Remove caliper carrier with brake caliper and hang on body with tie wire. Remove brake disc and backing plate. Remove ABS wheel speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.

CAUTION: Place engine/transmission jack VAG1383/A under control arm (danger of accident if parts fall off when ejecting wheel hub and wheel bearing).

Unscrew bolt (2) for control arm (1). See Figure . Pull wheel bearing housing off drive axle and swing out.
