Rear SUBFRAME: Removal

- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Remove exhaust behind converter.
- Check driveshaft for indexing marks. If no marks are found, index driveshaft to rear final drive flange. Failure to install driveshaft to original position will result in unbalanced condition. Remove driveshaft-to-final drive bolts. Tie driveshaft to body to prevent damage.
- Disconnect parking brake cable at calipers. Loosen parking brake cable retainers and remove parking brake cables. Remove and support brake calipers. See Figure . Disconnect and remove ABS sensors. On vehicles equipped with headlight vertical aim control, disconnect harness connector from level control. See Fig 1 .
- Remove lower strut assembly bolts from control arms. Using transmission jack, support final drive. Remove rear subframe bolts. Lower rear subframe and axle assembly.
NOTE:
Mounting threads in body can be repaired with thread insert made of wire according to DIN 8140 (Helicoil). Thread insert must have same length as thread in body.
