Rear SUBFRAME Mount (Aluminum): Removal

Remove and install mounts with subframe lowered. If front bonded rubber bushing is to be replaced, loosen front subframe bolts. If rear bonded rubber bushing is to be replaced, loosen rear subframe bolts. If any other bolt is unfastened at front or rear of subframe, wheel alignment must be performed following installation. Mark installation position of bonded rubber bushings on subframe.

Loosen front or rear subframe bolts. Unscrew subframe bolt corresponding to position of hydro-bushing to be replaced. Use engine/transmission jack V.A.G1383 to carefully lower subframe by about 5 cm. See Fig 1 .

Pry aluminum shim off bonded rubber bushing using a screwdriver. Use a felt-tip pen, for example, to draw the semicircular recess (arrow) on axle beam. See Figure .
Extract bushing. See Fig 2 and Fig 3 .

Front and rear bonded rubber bushings are not identical. Pay attention to correct bushing on installation. Bonded rubber bushings must be installed correctly with respect to direction. Arrows on aluminum shim must face to rear in direction of travel and mark on subframe must be aligned with semicircular recess at bushing.
