Replacing Lower Bushing (Wheel Bearing Housing With Bolt-In Bearing)
NOTE:
The bonded rubber bushing in the wheel bearing housing consists of 2 parts. Removing and installing therefore occurs in two stages.
NOTE:
Always replace bushings on both sides of the vehicle.
- To remove first bonded rubber bushing, slightly flange sheet metal collars of bonded rubber bushing. Position tools 3293 and 3349 such that claws engage between flange of bonded rubber bushings and wheel bearing housing. Pull one of the bonded rubber bushings with nut, washer and threaded spindle from 3290. See Fig 1 .
- To press out second bonded rubber bushing (1), install special tools. See Fig 2 . The tool arrangement is shown here without wheel bearing housing.
- Insert thrust piece 3349/1 and insert spindle from 3290. See Fig 3 . Attach special tool 3349 at bonded rubber bushing (1). Pull bonded rubber bushing out by turning nut on threaded spindle.
- - Install new bushing in wheel bearing housing using thrust pieces 3292/3 and threaded spindle from 3292. See Fig 4 . Install bushings carefully to avoid tilting. Screw thrust pieces together as far as they will go.
