01V Transaxle (Changing Or Topping Off After Repair Work)

- Place drain pan under transaxle. Remove drain plug (1). See Figure . Drain ATF.
- Install NEW drain plug and oil seal. Tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 N.m).
- Connect ATF reservoir from filling system (V.A.G. 1924) to vehicle. Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove ATF inspection plug (2). See Figure . Using ATF Filling System (V.A.G. 1924), carefully insert fill hose through an opening in deflector cap (4). See Figure and Figure . Ensure deflector cap is not pushed upward out of position.
- Fill until ATF runs out of inspection hole.
- Shift selector lever into "P" position. Start engine.
- Press and hold brake pedal. Shift through all selector lever positions with vehicle stationary, leaving selector lever in each position for approximately 10 seconds, and ending in "P" position.
- Check fluid level and top off. See CHECKING FLUID LEVELS . Add ATF as necessary. Replace seal on ATF inspection plug. Tighten inspection plug to 59 ft. lbs. (80 N.m).
CAUTION:
Engine must not be started without ATF and vehicle must not be towed!
