Rear Axle Assembly: Removal

Remove some brake fluid from master cylinder. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels.
Remove cover beneath rear axle. See .

Unbolt heat shield cover and push forward enough to gain access to parking brake cable adjuster. See .

Loosen parking brake both cable adjusters as follows: Remove locking clip D. See Fig 3. Screw in adjusting nut C up to stop. Push adjuster together.

At each rear brake, remove locking plate, slightly loosen bolts on parking brake cable retaining plate and remove parking brake cables from axle beam. See Fig 4.

Disconnect brake line at rear axle on both sides.
Pull ABS wheel speed sensors out of mounting holes on both sides. Release ABS wheel speed sensor cables at rear axle.
On vehicles with headlight range control, remove headlight range control axle linkage.
On all vehicles, unbolt and remove suspension strut from axle beam. See Fig 5. Remove bolts from guide bushings and remove axle beam.
