Entering On Board Diagnostic Function Modes
NOTE:
Ensure battery has a full charge, fuse No. 12 (10-amp) is not blown and ground connections are okay.
- Open rear passenger ashtray in center console and remove Data Link Connector (DLC) cover. Turn ignition switch off. Using Adapter Cable (VAG 1551/3), connect Scan Tool (VAG 1551) to DLC. If V.A.G SELF DIAGNOSIS HELP 1-RAPID DATA TRANSFER* 2-BLINK CODE OUTPUT* is displayed on scan tool, go to next step. If V.A.G SELF DIAGNOSIS HELP 1-RAPID DATA TRANSFER* 2-BLINK CODE OUTPUT* is not displayed on scan tool, check battery, fuses, ground and scan tool for proper connections.
NOTE:
Additional operating instructions can be obtained by pressing HELP key on scan tool. During testing procedures, the right arrow key advances program to next step. An incorrect entry can be cancelled with "C" key.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Press PRINT key to turn on printer. Enter rapid data transfer mode by pressing 1 on scan tool.RAPID DATA TRANSFER HELP ENTER ADDRESS WORD XX will be displayed. Press 1 then 7 to access instrument cluster mode.
- RAPID DATA TRANSFER Q 17-INSTRUMENT CLUSTER will be displayed. Press "Q" to confirm input. After 5 seconds, scan tool will display part number of instrument cluster, component designation (instrument cluster), D04 (software version) and instrument cluster code (00262).
- Press right arrow key to advance program. RAPID DATA TRANSFER HELP SELECT FUNCTION XX will be displayed. Select desired function mode and go to appropriate procedure. See FUNCTION MODE DESCRIPTION table.
