Step 1: Interrogating fault memory: Condition

• Engine stopped, ignition on

• Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 (see VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC, TESTING AND INFORMATION SYSTEM VAS 5051, CONNECTING AND SELECTING FUNCTIONS  ) and select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics" from list. Ignition must be on.

Indicated on VAS 5051:

• From list -1- select diagnostic function "02 - Interrogating fault memory".

1. - Content of fault memory:
   • 0 faults detected

     or

   • X faults detected
2. - Fault
   • Fault code
   • Fault location
   • Type of fault

If a fault has been stored:

• Eliminate fault, erase fault memory. Perform test drive and interrogate fault memory again as a check.

If no fault has been stored:

• Touch > key.
• Proceed with next step.
