TROUBLESHOOTING: ENGINE STOPS RUNNING WHILE DRIVING

Symptom Possible cause Corrective action
With fuel gauge at less than 1/4-full:
Engine stops running while driving (drive time greater than 10 min.)
Fuel level sensor faulty Check fuel level sensor resistance against specified values and repair if necessary. See FUEL LEVEL SENSORS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING  .
  Left side fuel level sensor incorrectly installed, causing the left intake pump to be raised, not permitting complete evacuation of left cavity.
If so, there is approx. 10-14 liters (2.6-3.7 gal.) remaining in the left fuel tank cavity.
Check installation of left-side fuel level sensor. See FUEL LEVEL SENSORS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING  .
