Fuel Gauge Test

  1. Remove connector from fuel gauge sending unit. Connect Variable Resistance Tester (VW 1301) to sending unit connector terminals.
    NOTE: Ensure that connector is not pushed back in sleeve during test.
  2. On 80 models, with Variable Resistance Tester (VW 1301) set to 280, fuel gauge needle should be at EMPTY/RESERVE mark on fuel gauge indicating 2.1 gallons remain. On all other models, with Variable Resistance Tester (1301) set at 400, fuel gauge needle should be at EMPTY/RESERVE, indicating 3.2 gallons of fuel remain. If test values are not correct, adjust fuel gauge.
  3. If gauge does not indicate as described, adjust fuel gauge with Variable Resistance Tester (VW 1301) set to specified value as described in step 2), by turning correction pin. To reach correction pin, carefully pry off cap in instrument bezel. Correction pin is located at bottom left corner of fuel gauge.
