Steering Wheel & Horn Pad (W/Air Bag) R & I: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable and isolate it from terminal. On 80 and 900 models, remove cover panel under driver's side of dash and disconnect the Red in-line power supply fuse marked AIRBAG. On 100 and 200 Turbo models, disconnect air bag power fuse, located behind center console side trim.
- On all models, unscrew the (No. 30) Torx head retaining bolts on either side of steering wheel. Tilt air bag unit downward and carefully remove safety clamp. Separate air bag electrical connector and remove from steering wheel.NOTE: DO NOT place removed air bag unit face down on vinyl horn pad (Audi "circles" emblem must face upward).
- Center and match mark steering wheel for installation reference. Remove screws and upper steering column trim. Separate air bag connectors. Remove hex nut and steering wheel. See instructions for removing appropriate switches.

- Center and match mark steering wheel for installation reference. Remove screws and upper steering column trim. Separate air bag connectors. Remove hex nut and steering wheel. Remove instrument panel insert screws. Remove terminal housing at ignition lock. Remove Torx screw from ignition lock assembly.
- Remove upper column tube mounting bolts. Remove steering lock housing from column tube. Push steering column and tube downward until it can be removed from instrument panel. See Figure. Remove steering column coupling at steering rack assembly.
