Fuel Gauge Test

  1. Remove luggage compartment cover. Remove cover for fuel gauge sending unit. Remove connector from fuel gauge sending unit. Connect Tester (VW 1301) to connector outer terminals. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. Set dial of tester to following numbers and check gauge readings.
  2. With dial set at 400, gauge should read empty. With dial set at 60, gauge should read full. Needle of gauge must be within range for each dial setting. Keep tester connected for at least 2 minutes to allow gauge needle to reach checking points.
  3. To adjust fuel gauge, drain fuel tank and refill with 3.2 gallons of gasoline. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. Leave ignition on for at least 2 minutes to allow gauge needle to reach checking point. Gauge needle must be at top end of "RESERVE" position. If not, adjust fuel gauge.
  4. Adjust fuel gauge by turning screw (below gauge needle) at bottom of gauge. Recheck gauge using tester. If still not within specifications, check voltage stabilizer.
