Up-Shift Switch

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster and up-shift switch. Attach up-shift switch to Vacuum Tester (V.A.G.1368). Attach vacuum pump to tester. Close tester valve 1 and turn tester valve 2 to (AB) so vacuum passes through. Plug open end of up-shift switch. Measure resistance on up-shift terminals with ohmmeter. Ohmmeter should read 0 ohms. If not, replace switch.
  2. Apply vacuum with pump to a reading higher than 10 in. Hg. Connect ohmmeter to up-shift switch and release vacuum slowly with tester valve 1. Ohmmeter should read infinite with 7.5 in Hg applied. If not within specifications, adjust up-shift switch by turning adjusting screw clockwise for a lower shift point and counterclockwise for a higher shift point.
