Oil Level Gauges

Engine and transaxle oil level sensors contain a high resistance wire. Resistance changes when voltage is applied and wire is submerged in liquid. When ignition is switched on, oil pressure warning lamp lights and control module applies voltage to the terminals on the sensor.

After engine reaches operating temperature, voltage drop across terminals will represent oil level. The difference in voltage is used by the control module to indicate oil level. Control module is mounted on instrument cluster.
