Removal And Installation

8HP50/850RE

REMOVAL 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the engine belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the transmission belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube. Refer to TUBE, EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  5. Disconnect the transmission wiring harness connector (1).

  6. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolt (1a), from the fluid cooler bracket (1b) and remove the transmission cooler tubes (2) from the transmission.

  7. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolt (1).

  8. Remove the thermal by-pass valve bracket bolts (1a).
  9. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
    NOTE:

    For Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicles.

  10. Remove the transmission crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or CROSSMEMBER, REAR SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or CROSSMEMBER, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or CROSSMEMBER, UNDERBODY TUNNEL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  11. Remove the drive shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    NOTE:

    For All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles.

  12. Remove the transfer case. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  13. Remove the ground wire nut (1a) and position the ground wire aside (1b).

  14. Disconnect the transmission solenoid wire harness connector (1).
  15. Remove the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  16. Turn the engine crankshaft (1) to access and remove the six torque converter bolts (2).

  17. Remove the transmission to engine bolt (1).

  18. Remove the transmission to engine bolt (1) and the four transmission to engine stud bolts (2).

  19. Remove the transmission to engine bolts (2), disconnect the wire harness connector (1) and remove the transmission.

INSTALLATION

  1. Install the transmission, the transmission to engine bolts (2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  2. Install the transmission to engine bolt (1), the four transmission to engine stud bolts (2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  3. Install the transmission to engine bolt (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  4. Turn the engine crankshaft (1) to access and install the six torque converter bolts (2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  6. Install the 3-Way coolant valve bracket bolts (1a) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  7. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolt (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  8. Position the transmission fluid cooler tubes (2) in place, install the fluid cooler tube bracket (1b) and install the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolt (1a) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  9. Connect the transmission solenoid wire harness connector (1).

  10. Install the ground wire (1b), the ground wire nut (1a) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
    NOTE:

    For All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles.

  11. Install the transfer case. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  12. Install the front drive shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    NOTE:

    For Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicles.

  13. Install the transmission crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or CROSSMEMBER, REAR SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or CROSSMEMBER, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or CROSSMEMBER, UNDERBODY TUNNEL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  14. Install the drive shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  15. Connect the transmission wiring harness connector (1).
  16. Fill the transmission. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  .
  17. Install the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube. Refer to TUBE, EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  18. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  19. Install the transmission belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  20. Install the engine belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  21. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
