Spark Plug: Inspection

CAUTION:

Cleaning platinum plugs may damage the platinum center electrode or the thin platinum pad.

  1. Check that the spark plugs used are the correct ones. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .

  2. Check that the spark plug insulator is not broken.

  3. Check that the spark plug electrode is not deformed or broken.

  4. Check that the spark plug electrode is not melted.

  5. Check that the spark plug electrode does not show signs of dirt from incorrect combustion.

  6. Check that there are no deposits.

  7. Check that there is no rust.

  8. Check that the hexagonal nut is free of defects.

  9. Check that there are no cracks in the insulator caused by incorrect use of the spark plug socket.

  10. Check that there is no damage to the ignition coil insertion terminal.

  11. Check that there are no signs of burning on the spark plug insulators.

  12. Using an insulation tester, check that the resistance is greater than 50 Ohm with a voltage of 1000 V applied between the metal shell and the insulator.

  13. Measure the resistance between the spark plug terminal and the central electrode. Check that the resistance is between 3 kOhm and 7.5 kOhm.

  14. Check that the spark plug electrode is not crushed.

  15. Check that the spark plug electrode has no abrasions.

  16. Check the spark plug electrode gap with a gap gauging tool. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
