Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

  1. Perform the fuel system pressure relief. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY/STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the left rear splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the fuel tank heat shield. Refer to SHIELD, HEAT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to SEAT, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  6. Lift the mat, undo the screws (1a) and move the fuel pump access cover (1b) to one side.

  7. Disconnect the fuel pump wire harness connector (1).
  8. Disconnect the quick coupling for the fuel vapor breather and recovery pipe (2).

  9. Open the clip (1a) and release the rear brake fluid pipes (1b) and the air vacuum pipe (1c).

  10. Remove the bolt (1) securing the fuel filler pipe to the body.

  11. Disconnect the quick coupling (1) for the fuel vapor pipe.
  12. Open the clamp (2a) and disconnect the fuel filler pipe (2b) from the sleeve.

  13. Disconnect the fuel supply and fuel vapor line quick couplings (1).

  14. Position a suitable hydraulic lift with a suitable bracket (1) under the fuel tank.
  15. Open the retaining clips (2) and release the pipe that supplies brake fluid to the rear right calliper.
  16. Remove the bolts (3) securing the fuel tank support brackets to the body.
  17. Lower the hydraulic lift and remove the fuel tank.

  18. Place the fuel tank (1) on a suitable workbench.

  19. Disconnect the quick coupling (1a) and remove the rear fuel supply pipe (1b) releasing from the tank retainers.
  20. Remove the rear fuel vapor pipe by releasing it from the tank retainers (2).
  21. If necessary remove the fuel pump module (1a). Refer to MODULE, FUEL PUMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

INSTALLATION 

  1. Refit the rear fuel vapor pipe in position and secure it to the tank retainers.
  2. Refit the rear fuel supply pipe in position, engage the tank retainers and connect the quick coupling to the fuel pump.

  3. Use a suitable hydraulic lift with a suitable bracket (1) to refit the tank complete with support brackets back in place.
  4. Tighten the fuel tank mounting bracket fasteners to the proper torque specification. Refer to appropriate service information .
  5. Refit the rear right brake fluid supply pipe in position and close the retaining clips on the fuel tank (3).
  6. Tighten the bolt securing the fuel filler pipe to the body.
  7. Connect the fuel filler pipe to the tank sleeve and tighten the clamp.
  8. Install the rear brake fluid pipe and the vacuum pipe in position and close the retaining clip.
  9. Connect the quick coupling for the fuel vapor breather and recovery pipe.
  10. Connect the fuel pump wire harness connector.
  11. Install the fuel pump access cover in position and securely tighten the screws on the body.
  12. Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to SEAT, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  13. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  14. Install the fuel tank heat shield. Refer to SHIELD, HEAT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  15. Install the left rear splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  16. Remove the car from the lift.
