Removal And Installation: Left

REMOVAL 

  1. Perform the fuel system pressure release. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY/STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the front fascia. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to COOLING/STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  5. Remove the fuel pump cover.
  6. Remove the left side high pressure fuel line. Refer to LINES, FUEL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  7. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) for the left cylinder head fuel pressure regulator.
  8. Remove the connector bracket retaining screws (2).
  9. Remove the low pressure fuel pipe (3).
  10. Remove the left pressure pump to the tappet cover screws (4).

  11. Remove the left pressure pump (1a) complete with O-ring (1b).
    NOTE:

    Handle the pressure pump with care because accidental knocks could compromise operation.

  12. If necessary, open the clips (1a), disengage the bracket retainer (1b) and remove the bracket.

  13. Remove the roller tappet (1) using a suitable tool.

INSTALLATION 

  1. Place the roller tappet back in its housing.
  2. Place the left cylinder head pressure pump in its housing complete with a new O-ring.
    NOTE:

    Handle the pressure pump with care because accidental knocks could compromise operation.

  3. Tighten the screws (1) securing the left high pressure fuel pump to the tappet cover to the proper torque specification. Refer to appropriate service information .
  4. Connect the low pressure fuel line (2) to the left pressure pump and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to appropriate service information .
  5. Securely tighten the wire harness bracket retaining screws (3).
  6. Connect the wire harness connector (4) to the left fuel pressure regulator.
  7. Install the left side high pressure fuel line. Refer to LINES, FUEL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  8. Install the fuel pump cover.
  9. Install the front fascia. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to COOLING/STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
