Engine Timing Verification

  1. Remove the left and right charge air water coolers. Refer to COOLER AND HOSES, CHARGE AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  2. Install the crankshaft damper rotating tool (special tool #2024200090, Damper, Rotating Tool) (1).

  3. Disconnect the #1 cylinder ignition coil wire harness connector (1).
  4. Remove the ignition coil retaining bolt (2a) and the ignition coil (2b).
  5. Remove the #1 spark plug.

  6. Remove the bolts (1) and release the wiring harness.
  7. Remove the bolts (2a) and remove the caps with O-rings (2b).

  8. Install the (special tool #2023900090, Gauge, Dial) (1) into cylinder #1.

  9. Install a suitable dial indicator gauge (1) onto the extension.

  10. Turn the crankshaft (clockwise) with small movements until the cylinder #1 piston is at top dead center in the ignition stroke.
  11. Reset the dial indicator gauge to zero.
  12. Turn the crankshaft to bring the #1 cylinder to 5 mm into the piston stroke and then fit the (special tool #2024000090, Guide Pins, Camshaft) (1).
